They symbolism of to kill a mockingbird represents innocence. A mocking bird is a innocent bird that doesn't harm anyone and should never be harmed at all, In the novel, Tom Robinson was in innocent man that was accused for a crime he did not commit. He was accused of raping a white girl and beating her up, but never did any of those accusation that they said he did and was accused guilty. He sadly had to pay the price of death for something that he did not do. Another symbolism in the novel is boo Radley. Boo Radley is presented as a ghost. No one really knows him,he never comes out of his house since the age of sixteen. He was locked in his house and chained up, he was gonna be sent to an asylum but his father declined and locked him in the basement because he drove scissors threw his father's leg. He never bothered anyone but over the years he would be watching Jem and scout and seeing how they grew up. He grew very fond of them. He treated them as if they were his own children. Symbolism of the mad dog- the mad dog represented racism. When the mad dog got to the community everyone was so scared that they shut their doors. In the beginning of the book, doors shut was when people were ill. There for racism in Maycomb is ill for them. Therefore when Atticus shot the mad dog he killed racism in Maycomb. Everyone was happy that they killed the dog, and how they everyone would be happy if there wasn't any blacks in their town either. The Snowman represents the black versus the whites. It represents the rank of both people. Since there wasn’t a lot of snow the bottom of the snowman was mostly mud while the top of the snowman was mostly snow. Since the bottom was full of mud and it was black it showed how the blacks were on the bottom of the social pyramid and no one really liked them. While the top was full of snow it showed how the whites were on the top of the social pyramid and everyone liked them more. The Nut Grass represents black people. In the book it explains how Miss. Maudie loves all plants except for nut grass. She says once you see one piece of the grass you have to cut it immediately before it grows everywhere. After it grows everywhere it’s impossible to get rid of. This is basically saying that when one black person comes into town, a whole community of them will come and “ruin” the town.
